“Don’t wait for perfect moments. Make the moment perfect for your kids — even if you have to wear a Santa beard to do it.”
Christmas means a lot to me — not just the gifts and lights, but the feeling.
As a dad, I’ve always wanted to create that spark of magic my kids will remember forever.
This year, I decided to do something I’d never done before…
I became Santa Claus. 🎅✨
✏️ STORY
Hi guys!
So tonight we got the babies bathed and fed early — around six o’clock — and I had a plan.
The kids had no idea, but I was about to show up at the front door dressed as Santa.
I’d never been Santa before, so I was nervous. Like, really nervous.
But I found this full-on Saint Nicholas suit at TJ Maxx for $60 — beard, wig, hat, boots, glasses, eyebrow whitener — the works.
So there I was, transforming into Santa Claus in our living room while the kids were getting ready for bed.
The babies were giggling and wide-eyed, while Mia and Kai were… let’s just say, not fans of Santa. (Terrified might be a better word. 😅)
My plan was to knock on the door with a big “Ho, ho, ho!” and hand out Christmas pajamas so we could all get dressed and go look at lights.
I figured it’d go one of two ways: magical or total chaos.
Spoiler: it was both.
🎥 WHAT HAPPENED NEXT
I knocked on the door, let out my best Santa laugh, and immediately heard the shrieks — some from excitement, some from pure panic.
Mia took off running down the hallway. Kai froze. Mylee looked confused but tried to be brave.
“Merry Christmas!” I said through my fake beard.
“Mia, it’s okay!” Erica called out.
Eventually, they peeked around the corner as I handed out their pajamas and candy canes.
And just like that, the fear turned to laughter.
We loaded everyone into the car — way past bedtime — and headed out to see Christmas lights. I even stayed in costume, waving out the window and shouting “Ho, ho, ho!” at every stoplight.
People smiled. Kids waved. For a few hours, the world felt warm and simple.
💬 WHY THIS NIGHT MATTERED
That night wasn’t about perfect costumes or staged photos.
It was about being present — about giving our kids a memory they’ll never forget.
For me, dressing up as Santa wasn’t just about Christmas magic — it was about showing up for my family, even in the smallest, silliest ways.
I realized that sometimes, the most meaningful moments come when you let go of how things “should” look and just show up anyway — goofy beard, frosty socks, and all.
🎄 A MESSAGE TO OTHER DADS
If you’re a dad reading this — I can’t encourage you enough to do something like this at least once.
Put on the suit. Fake the “ho-ho-ho.” Make a fool of yourself if you have to.
Because here’s the truth: your kids won’t remember how perfect it looked — they’ll remember how it felt.
They’ll remember that you cared enough to create a little magic just for them.
You don’t need to buy anything fancy. You don’t even need a Santa suit. It’s about being intentional, showing up, and giving them a story they’ll tell for the rest of their lives.
These are core memories — the kind that shape childhood and anchor a lifetime of love.
And for me? It’s one of the most rewarding experiences I’ve ever had as a father. ❤️
